HOW IT WORKS

Pair offline. Share online.

Device pairing happens offline - no one can intercept it. After that, encrypted content flows through our proxy so your devices can reach each other anywhere, but we only see ciphertext.

Install & pair offline

One device shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone's camera. The pairing happens locally - the encryption keys never leave your devices. No account, no login, no interceptable handshake.

STEP 02

Create channels for different contexts

Work laptop + personal phone? One channel. Personal devices + partner's devices? Another channel. Each channel is separately encrypted. You control which devices see what.

STEP 03

Copy, paste, drag - it just works

Drop a file into Sidedoor. It's encrypted for everyone in that channel and pushed to our relay. Other devices pull it down and decrypt it. Near real-time. Works offline on LAN, too.

PRIVACY & SECURITY

We can't read your data. Really.

✓ Pairing happens offline, keys stay on-device. When you scan the QR code, encryption keys are exchanged directly between your devices. No server involvement. We never hold your keys, so there's nothing for us to hand over - even if compelled.
✓ Relay only sees encrypted bytes. After pairing, content flows through our relay so your devices can reach each other anywhere. But it's encrypted before it leaves your device. We see ciphertext, routing metadata, and approximate timestamps - that's it.
✓ MIT licensed, auditable source. Desktop apps, mobile PWA, relay server, and the protocol spec are all open source on GitHub. Read the code. Audit the crypto. Run your own relay if you want full control.
✓ Use responsibly. Know your employer's policy. Sidedoor is for personal convenience between your own devices. It's not built to evade legal obligations or IT compliance. If your work laptop is managed, check your acceptable-use policy first.
